The majority of Bali population are Hinduism. It is characterized by almost every corner of the island stand Hindu’s place of worship. At certain place stood a greater worship place and at any given time the great temple will be filled Hindus to pray.
There are some great temples which allowed tourists to visit. Of course, there are certain requirements that the visitors must follow. For the example, prohibited for women who are on their period to coming in to sign pretenses or using certain fabrics to be entered.
There are some great temple which are very familiar to the visitors such as; Besakih temple on Gunung Agung mountain, Tanah Lot temple, Tirta Empul temple, Uluwatu temple, Ulun Danu temple, Goa Lawah temple and Gunung Kawi temple.
Gunung Kawi is an archaeological site in the form of the temple were carved on the walls of the rock cliff Pakerisan River, very lovely and beautiful. The road leading to it was also passed-terraced rice terraces population is very pretty, especially when the yellow rice season, absolutely breathtaking like a paradise.
Historically, Pura Gunung Kawi Tampaksiring is sthana / shrine king Bali named Anak Wungsu. Anak Wungsu is the son of King Udayana.
Told by his queen King Udayana Gunapriya Dharmapattni had three sons namely Airlangga, Marakata and Anak Wungsu. Airlangga as the eldest son eventually became King of Kediri in East Java, while Marakata and Anak Wungsu forward throne of King Udayana in Bali.
After King Udayana died, the throne was replaced by Marakata in the year 1025 , then after Marakata throne succeeded by his brother’s death the Anak Wungsu (1049 to 1080). These Kings are death in Temple Gunung Kawi Tampaksiring.
On the wall of the temple found Kwadrat Kediri writing that reads “Haji Lumah Ing jalu” which means “king in Jalu”. While the second temple are the words “Nak Rwa ira” which means “his two sons”. It can be concluded that the largest temple is Stana Udayana, and the second temple is Stana from his sons.
In the inscription Tengkulak to the year 945 Saka (1023), which was made during the reign of Sri Haji Paduka Cri Dharmawangsa Marakata Pangkaja Stanattunggadewa, tells about the state of the Hermitage (Kantyangan) Amarawati located around Pakerisan River, which is referred to in the tablets was the temple area of Gunung Kawi the Tampaksiring.
Besides, as a place of worship for the ancestors, Gunung Kawi Temple, the center of spiritual and religious training.
On the South side there Campuhan Gunung Kawi which is a meeting between two streams namely Pakerisan River and Moon River. In accordance with the Hindu community trust, this place is believed to be the self-purification.
